The city of
Jaca is, undoubtedly, the capital of the Aragonese Pyrenees. Visiting the "Plaza del Marqués de la Cadena" ( Marqués de la Cadena square) and the "Torre del Reloj" (Clock Tower) is a must. The perfectly preserved "Ciudadela" , is Jaca's most emblematic building and "Monte Oroel" its most representative green space. It has become the city's symbol and there is an interesting view of the Pyrenees.
Through Aragon Valley, we will arrive in "Castillo de Jaca", a beautiful Pyrenean town. Along the way we will find Borau and Villanúa. In these towns we can visit the caves of Las Guixas, where stalactite and stalagmites combine to create magical images. Further on, the pilgrims bridge is a foretaste of our arrival at Canfrán. The
Valley of Aragon ends in the north with the winter centres of Candachú and Astún.
In the surroundings of Jaca we will find Aragon's most emblematic monument:
San Juan de la Peña's monastery. Behind its stones, the monastery harbours a large part of Aragon's history. It is the burial place of the royal family and one of the most beautiful and astonishing monuments man has put up.
In the west, we will find the greener valleys of the Aragonese Pyrenees:
Echo Valley. The town of Echo and its peculiar architecture in stone stands out. The valley ends by narrowing spectacularly, as in "Boca del Infierno". In the side valleys, such as Gabardito, we will find Nordic skiing pistes. Another attraction of these green Pyrenees,´ are the woods it possesses, such as
"Selva de Oza".
The westernmost valley is
Ansó Valley. Its most spectacular feature is the capital, Ansó. Any spot in the town will live up to the visitor's expectations as regards photogenic pictures.
